The Adventures of Flat Stanley in Rochester

Flat Stanley

Hello! I'm Flat Stanley. I'm here visiting for a while, going with the Currans where they go. My friend, Allison, sent me here to her cousin Claudia as part of a class project. Claudia's big brother, Tyler, is helping her out. Allison is in the third grade at Ferry Farm Elementary in Fredericksburg, Va.

While I'm here, Allison's class will be busy learning about maps and globes (just like Tyler's class!) and studying Rochester's history, weather and climate, and much more.

The Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse

Here I am with Tyler and Claudia at their grandparents' house. We're going to the Charlotte Lighthouse, which is very old. Claudia and Tyler live in Charlotte, a suburban neighborhood in the City of Rochester. It's pronounced sha-LOT.

Charlotte Lighthouse

I learned a lot about the lighthouse, which I visited with Tyler and Claudia, their mom Holly, and their grandpa Tom. They don't use it any more, but it used to mark the mouth of the Genesee River on Lake Ontario. You can learn more about the lighthouse here. Claudia and Tyler's grandpa loves the lighthouse and he comes here a lot. Claudia's pre-school isn't far and her teachers sometimes take her class on a walk here. It's nice to have such a cool landmark in your neighborhood.

All of us

Here we are standing in front of the Historical Society sign. In the back you can see all the boats docked in the Genesee River. This used to be the edge of Lake Ontario, but that's almost a mile away now.

The red star in the middle of the map is where the lighthouse is.
